AVAS 4th Saturday Bird Walks

Date

Birds sighted

Sept. 27, 2021
On the Nature Center deck, our group of nine birders assembled.
Most noticeable were the large clouds of small insects highlighted by the sun shining through them.
Before setting off down the trail to the west, we spotted an Osprey flying across above the river. A good start. However, at the start of our walk, it was very quiet--- and peaceful. For a while we heard no bird sounds.

List of birds seen and/or heard:

Osprey
House Sparrow
Northern Flicker
Mallard
Wood Duck
Pied-billed Grebe
Canada Goose
Blue Jay
Starling

We also saw 3 mule deer drinking from the river, a reddish squirrel feeding on some leaves, a Cottontail Rabbit, and a bullfrog (according to one of our group, an invasive species)
