Audubon of Colorado Board Sets Priorities

by Anne Whitfield

The fall meeting of Audubon Colorado was held in Grand Junction on Sept. 14.  The focus of this meeting was the refining of strategic foci for the coming year, (not unlike that which our AVAS Board has just completed for our chapter) the four areas of focus identified were:

●An expansion of state level advocacy of environmental concerns to include greater coordination with other conservation groups and entities.

●By 2008, Audubon Colorado will have a focused, integrated, mature Important Bird Areas program including research, volunteer efforts, habitat restoration, and assessment component.

●An active involvement with the newer nature centers, and a focus on underserved communities with a view toward possible development of additional centers.

●An emphasis on chapter development, with goals of membership increase, healthy financial resources, and leadership.

It was suggested that meetings for the remainder of the year Audubon Colorado concentrate on at least one of these areas of focus per meeting.

Former Executive Director, Susan Kirkpatrick, has resigned and a search committee has been formed. It is anticipated that a new director will be hired by mid-November.
