CELEBRATE EARTH DAY!
In April each year Earth Day is celebrated around the nation. While the 22nd is the “official” day, other days may be set aside as well. AVAS urges everyone to participate in Earth Day observations in their community. In Pueblo AVAS will cooperate with CCAP, the Sierra Club (CSU-Pueblo students group) and several other organizations. The event will be held on April 26, 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Pueblo Zoo pavilion. Zoo admission will be reduced to $2.00 for adults, free for children aged 16 and under. There will be food, drinks and entertainment. AVAS plans to bring the Bird and Bag trash (see field trip announcement on page 4) to display, as a negative example of our society’s impact on the environment. Everyone is invited!

AVAS WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS
The following people have recently become paid members of the National and Arkansas Valley Audubon Societies. AVAS learns of new members primarily through notification from NAS, so it is usually about two months or more between the time a person pays dues and the official notification to AVAS. We extend the red carpet to:
Beulah: Tom May & Suzanne Belarger
Del Norte: Carol Cossa
Pueblo: Tom Gribben, Pete & Nadine Elich, Mr. & Mrs. John Martínez
Salida: Charles Forster, Marilyn Whitney
Also a very special thank you to the three people who have paid to renew their Audubon membership!

AVAS BOARD APPROVES NEW DUES PLAN |
|||
|
At its regularly scheduled meeting on March 17, the AVAS Board of Directors approved a dues plan for the Chapter. The new schedule will be as outlined in the February Valley Harrier. At that time the Board asked for reaction from all AVAS members. While few members volunteered opinions, those responding were all favorable. AVAS now will ask its renewing members to fill out a simple form indicating whether they want to continue as members of both National Audubon and AVAS ($20 + $15 = $35), or have membership in AVAS only ($15). The Board highly recommends to our members that they continue in both AVAS and National Audubon. AVAS will forward to National $20 of each $35 renewal received,
|
along with the names of those renewing with National. Members are urged to renew through AVAS, thus simplifying the process. By renewing through AVAS, members will not have to respond to National Audubon mailings. This plan does not increase the cost of combined membership in National and the Chapter. It merely directs more of the dues share to the Chapter. Look for more details about the new dues plan in the May Harrier. For more information or to register comments, send a letter to our PO box (see back cover), phone (see above) or email SeEtta Moss <seettamoss@hotmail.com> or Leon Bright <urraca2@attbi.com>.
