Birds in the

Denver Post

The Denver Post inaugurated a new column on bird watching in the Mountain West last December. Written by Hugh Kingery and illustrated by Radeaux (also known as AVAS VP Mark Yaeger), it appears in the Lifestyles section of the Sunday paper.

Aimed at the general public, the column reports on the natural history of birds that occur in the mountains and plains of Colorado and adjacent states. It also covers bird watching activities such as Christmas counts, banding, and breeding bird surveys, where to see birds,
habitat requirements, identification, and other related topics.

Author Kingery declares, “Of course, having art by Radeaux will make the column worthwhile, regardless of what it says."

AVAS WELCOMES

NEW MEMBERS

The following people have recently become paid members of the National and Arkansas Valley Audubon Societies.  AVAS learns of new members primarily through notification from NAS, so it is usually about two months or more between the time a person pays dues and the official notification to AVAS. We extend the red carpet to the following people who joined last fall:

Buena Vista:  Cathy Manning

Del Norte:  Barbara Wright

Leadville:  Scott Leaming

Pueblo:  Doug Orgill,  Marilee Heller

Also a very special thank you to the four people who have paid to renew their Audubon membership

The HARRIER Needs

More Voices

The Arkansas Valley Audubon Society serves over 500 members in fourteen counties in southeastern and south-central Colorado. The majority of those members live outside of the immediate Pueblo area.

In order to serve all our constituents, the HARRIER needs to receive news from the more rural parts of our region. Are there environmental concerns, wildlife news, personal stories, etc. in your area that should be reported?  If so, contact Leon Bright at 636 Henry, Pueblo, CO 81005 or

<urraca2@attbi.com>.
