Consider serving on the AVAS Board!

Once again it is time to assemble a slate of AVAS officers and Board members to be elected for the coming year.  Please consider volunteering a little of you time for a good cause.  The offices and Board positions are listed under “AVAS Leadership” on page 3.

The positions run from January 1 to December 31 with regular Board meetings held on the second or third Monday evenings of January, February, March, April, May, September, October and November.  Duties of all members include:

 · Oversight of chapter resources

 · Program planning, including field trips

 · Planning and coordination of fundraising

 · Environmental protection planning and action

 · Environmental education oversight

 · Promoting Chapter growth in membership and effectiveness

All those interested in promoting the Audubon cause in the company of like-minded colleagues are urged to contact any Board member by phone (see “AVAS Leadership” on page 3), by writing the AVAS Nominating Committee, P.O. Box 11187, Pueblo, CO 81001 or by emailing Leon Bright at <urraca2@comcast.net>.

BIRDING PROGRAM SERIES IN CAÑON CITY

As a part of AVAS efforts to provide more service to areas outside of Pueblo, SeEtta Moss has begun providing a series of short programs on birding issues in Cañon City at the Golden Age Center. Her first program, “Backyard Birdwatching,” had 15 people in attendance, a good number for this less populated area.

She has scheduled a second program, “Birds of the Cañon City Riverwalk,” on Saturday, September 6 from 10:00 ‘til 11:00 a.m. This will also be held at the Golden Age Center that is located at 728 Main Street in Cañon City.  It is hoped that AVAS members in the Cañon City area will take advantage of these local activities.
