Lake Isabel CBC

9 hardy birders braved strong winds on this year's Lake Isabel CBC, 1-1-06. 70 species were tallied, which is well above average.  Considering theweather, we did extremely well.

After fruitless morning searches, the juvenile G. White-fronted Goose was at last found on the west side of Lake Beckwith at about 2:45 PM..  It was the only new bird for the Count.  2 Goshawks were found: an adult at the Frog Pond by Donna Emmons & the other on Clennin Rd by Leon & Treva Bright.  Dave Johnson was wide awake at dawn to spot a G. Roadrunner near the Waterbarrel Bridge. Picking out Golden-crowned Kinglets can sometimes be difficult anytime, but Mike Ketchen saw and heard one above the wind din on Millset Trail. 10 Red Crossbills were seen, but unusual were 2 reported by MarkYaeger in open country on 3-R Rd.

Other birds of interest include 1 Say's Phoebe at the Metro Lake and an Eastern Bluebird near Beulah.

The Lake Isabel & Spanish Peaks CBCs are now posted on the Audubon Website.
