| Salida CBC unofficial results
Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2005 Salida CBC, and thanks to our own DOW Area 13 for providing space, lunch, and counters. You guys are great! Those intrepid folks who stuck around through afternoon helped us pick up 5 more species, for a count total of 70. GOOD JOB! Last year, as Tina remembered, we did indeed have 80, but quite respectable you guys! And did we get lucky with the weather, or what? I think today was warmer, but windier, in the Center of the Universe. Many thanks for Duane, Tina, and Zell for making the long trip. The rest of you Front Range bums OWE ME next year. )See if I make cookies for YOU again.) Welcome to all the new counters, we're glad you were with us this year! Our gains to the count from last year will be in ALL CAPS. Notable absences this year were the Great-tailed Grackles (20 on last year's count) and every single accipiter. Poo. Individual duck numbers were down, as expected with Sands Lake out of commission, but waterfowl species diversity remained strong. Jacque and I were unsuccessful after sunset at scoring anything other than the ire of the folks whose neighborhoods we drove through very slowly with alternate high beams and no lights at all. Might have had one GHOW once, but were at risk of either being arrested or shot at, so decided to leave the critter and its human neighbors alone in the dark. Also Poo.
